Oct. 27 – Healthy Teeth, Healthy Kids
GOOD MORNING DELMARVA - Halloween means pumpkins, ghosts and ghouls, it also means time for candy…and lots of it. Witches, mummies, black cats and princesses will venture out to fill bags or pillowcases with candy—most of which can harm their teeth if they consume too much. A study by the American Dental Association found that nearly two-thirds of kids said they eat too much candy at Halloween. Halloween is the perfect time to educate parents about how they can ensure their children have a fun Halloween while keeping their child's mouth healthy.
Oral health experts are available to discuss Halloween candy and how to ensure the candy doesn't cause any oral health issues. In addition to discussing the impact too much candy can have on oral health, the experts can also:
- Provide oral health-friendly options that can be given out in place of candy
- Provide visuals that show just how much sugar is in candy
- And, in honor of National Brush Day, which is Nov. 1, can demo proper brushing technique and show the appropriate toothbrushes for kids.
