CR Pulls Off Impeccable Comeback To Advance To State Final
Dover, DE- The Riders of Caesar Rodney scored three unanswered goals, all in the second half to defeat Cape Henlopen High School 3-2, and move to the Division I state championship game.
The night started as if it would be all Cape, as just seven minutes into the game Vikings midfielder Drew Mulcahay found the back of the net to take the early lead. Then, when things started to look a little more evenly matched, Cape Henlopen found pay dirt again. This time Jackie Norwood found a rebound from a shot from Zach Swarbrick.
CR went into the half down two to the team that they had given its one and only loss to earlier this year, but they would come out and have a second half for the ages. Adrian Coverdale got the scoring started for CR, less than two minutes in the second half. Chris McPoyle would knot the game up for the Riders at 2 a piece just ten minutes later. Just seven minutes after McPoyle's tying strike, Henry Cantu put one more home giving CR their first lead of the game, a lead that they would not relinquish.
Caesar Rodney advances to the Division I title game where they will face Salesianum. Game time is set for 3 pm at Smyrna High School.
