Some services restored after outage impacts BB&T Bank, customers; investigation ongoing

Bank officials are investigating an outage after they say their services were unavailable beginning overnight

On Friday, BB&T says they are working to restore banking services to customers after customers started experiencing issues with digital banking, Phone24, and ATM. Officials say at this time, automated Phone24 service and ATMs are now available, but some account information has not yet been fully updated from yesterday.

The bank says the outage was caused by an equipment malfunction in one of their data centers. Cybersecurity is not believed to be related to this issue at this time.

BB&T Banks says the following in a statement on their website:

"Our systems are currently being restored and our automated Phone24 service and ATMs are now available. Please be aware some of the information you will see in your accounts has not yet been fully updated from yesterday. We expect those balances and transactions to become current later today, and we'll continue to provide updates as that occurs. In the meantime, you can use your BB&T debit, credit and prepaid cards as you normally do.

To our clients, we are deeply sorry this has happened. We hear your frustration, and we are committed to making this right. If you've incurred fees or experienced any other challenges directly related to this outage, please know we will work with you to address those issues as our systems come back online. Thank you so much for your continued patience. We will continue to provide updates here and on BB&T's Facebook and Twitter pages.

As we shared earlier, the outage you've been experiencing was caused by an equipment malfunction in one of our data centers. At this time, we have no reason to believe this issue is related to cybersecurity."
