Rehoboth man crashing into State Trooper, leads to 3rd DUI

A Rehoboth Beach man was arrested on this third driving under the influence offense, after he apparently hit a Police cruiser.

Delaware State Police say around 12:15 AM on Wednesday, 44-year-old Eric Biase, was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer on Route 113. According to the report, as Biase was making the turn from Route 113 onto Route 24, he lost control, hitting a fully marked Delaware State Police 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe.

Police say the cruiser, driven by a 39-year-old Trooper, was sitting at a traffic light on Route 24. After the crash, Biase reportedly pulled onto the shoulder near the collision, the Trooper then apparently approached, and smelled alcohol on Biase. A DUI investigation reportedly led to the Lancer being towed from the scene. Police say the car was searched before it was removed, and Troopers found 17.7 grams of marijuana in the center console, along with a glass pipe.

Biase was then charged with 3rd offense driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on $5,000 bond. Biase was previously convicted of two other DUIs, one in September 1999 and another in August 2010.

Neither driver, nor the 29-year-old passenger in the Lancer were injured in the crash.
