SBY mayor wants Labinal to stay

About a week ago, Wicomico County learned that Labinal Power Systems would be leaving Salisbury and moving to Denton, Texas by 2016.
Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton tells 47ABC that just this week, he received a letter from Labinal saying the company was seeking ways for some of their employees to remain in Salisbury.
The mayor says the news of closing came as a shock to the not only the city, but to employees and Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski.
The city of Salisbury is now creating a three prong approach to try and save roughly six- hundred jobs that could be lost once Labinal leaves.
Ireton says, “One is that Senator Mikulski and I are working very hard on the back channels for Labinal to stay there on Glen Avenue. The second prong that we’re working on is that some of these workers will stay and we’ll have to diversify the plant, so we’re working that angle. We’re also working on another angle that says all of it goes away on Glen avenue and we have to figure out what to do with the plant.”
The mayor also says the city will be working with local colleges and universities on skill building and resume critiquing, so that those individuals who may not be able to stay with Labinal, will be able to find work elsewhere.
