Salisbury woman charged in theft scheme

Ocean City Police have arrested a Salisbury woman in connection to a theft scheme.
Investigators launched the investigation in August, after an area restaurant reported fraudulent transactions to a financial account. According to detectives, a spouse of an employee at the restaurant, later identified as Donna M. Prouty, 57, of Salisbury accessed a mobile app that the employee had on his mobile phone that was used to accept payments from customers. Authorities say Prouty used this app to transfer over $2,500 in credits from the restaurant’s financial account into her own accounts.
47 ABC reached out the restaurant and according to an employee, who did not wish to be identified at this time, Prouty’s husband was terminated from the company on Thursday.
Donna Prouty was arrested on Thursday after turning herself in to police. She was charged with theft, theft scheme, and multiple counts of unauthorized use of another’s credit card. Prouty was seen by a Maryland District Court Commissioner and was released on personal recognizance.
