Demyra Selby Scores Her 2,000th Career Point On Senior Night
The Mardela girls basketball team hosted Wicomico High School on Thursday night for senior night and it was a special night for one player from Mardela.
Demyra Selby, a senior from Mardela High School, started out her senior night only needing 21 points in order to score her 2000th career point. After just one half of basketball, Selby scored a layup as her 2000th point to go down in the history books.
Selby is a special young student athlete who has been an absolute pleasure to cover the past few months. It was special to be there to see this moment take place in front of her family, friends, teammates, and coaches. After she scored her 21 points of the game, I told her how incredible it is to be able to stay focused the way she did since my heart was pounding for her! Selby said she just wanted to stay calm and that when she hit her 21st point, she thought her family and friends were more excited than she was.
Selby was presented with a basketball that read 2,000 points at halftime following her 21 point first half performance. Here at WMDT, we were fortunate enough to catch all 21 of those record breaking points and we are so excited to share them with Demyra and the rest of Delmarva!
There does not seem to be a better way to end your senior night, not only with a win, but scoring 2,000 points is an incredible accomplishment. Congratulations from the WMDT 47ABC Sports Team!!!
