Feb. 17 – Cholesterol and Heart Disease

The federal nutrition guidelines being revised to say cholesterol in food isn’t necessarily a bad thing? So an official from PRMC will be here to answer the interesting question – the difference between cholesterol in our food vs. cholesterol in our bodies. All in recognition of National Heart Month. Some basic question that will be answered are:

1. What is cholesterol?
2. Why does cholesterol matter?
3. Are there other factors that can lead to atherosclerosis?
4. What is the difference between good cholesterol and bad cholesterol?
5. It was recently in the news that the dietary guidelines are removing cholesterol from the list of bad nutrients.  Can you explain this and its impact on heart disease?
6. How do we treat cholesterol ourselves?
7. Who is going to need a prescription drug for cholesterol?
8. What kind of medication is used to treat cholesterol?
