One arrested on drug and weapons charges during Dover traffic stop

A Dover traffic stop lands one man behind bars, and takes a gun off the streets. Dover Police say on Thursday, around 6:15 PM, Officers with the City of Dover TAC/ Operation Safe Streets Unit stopped a vehicle at the intersection of River Road and E. Water Street, in the Capital Green development.

According to the report, the driver, 23-year-old Wayne Kersey 2nd, of Dover, didn’t have any identification to give the Officers, and there was a marijuana smell coming from the vehicle. Officers say they had both Kersey, and his passenger get out of the car, and searched, finding a 9mm handgun and 18.7 grams of marijuana on Kersey.

Kersey was arrested, and charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by person prohibited, failure to use turn signal, and carrying a conceal deadly weapon. He is now being held at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna, DE on $31,250 bond.
