Delmarva Christians Wins The ESIAC Tournament

The ESIAC championship game took place on Saturday afternoon – Worcester Prep hosted Delmarva Christian at home to see who would take home the trophy this year. Worcester Prep lead the season series 2-0 over Delmarva Christian, but today it was the Royals’ day to take home the trophy.

It was a very evenly played game and both teams fought hard to be the ones still standing at the end of the game, however, it would come down to free throws to see who would win the championship. It was back to back the entire fourth quarter, with Worcester Prep taking a six point lead with seven minutes to go in the game. Delmarva Christian began to chip away at the lead and ended up coming back for the win.

With just 1.4 seconds left down, Delmarva Christians took the last shot of the game behind the arc and was fouled missing the shot allowed him to take three chances to knock down the winning point. Micah Magee hit one of the three free throws to get hit seen the upper hand with only 1.4 seconds on the clock – with 1.2 seconds Worcester Prep was able to get the rebound and call a timeout quickly. The Mallards had one last time to try to get the win, but they could not get the shot off in time – Delmarva Christian would go on to win the game 29-28.

Delmarva Christian’s head coach of Jonah Lathbury spoke to me after the game and said that winning this game was such a big deal for him because he knew how much it meant to seniors. His team had gone down twice against Worcester Prep during the season – losing both games – they said they would not get them again third time of the year.

Congratulations to the Delmar for Christian Royals on being at the 2015 ESIAC tournament champions!
