SU Women’s Basketball Crowned CAC Champs
The Salisbury University women’s basketball team was crowned conference champs Saturday afternoon after they pulled off a thrilling come from behind, double overtime win over Mary Washington 74-68. The win improves the Sea Gulls to 24-2 on the year.
The Gulls would come out of the gates slow to start the game and find themselves down 29-23 at the half. SU would find their groove to open the second half though, as Anna Hackett and Sarah Seipp would lead the charge and help the Gulls take a 7 point lead. The Eagles would would their size advantage down low to fight back and take the lead with time winding down. With SU down 3 with 15 second Melanie Mocniak would be fouled shooting from beyond the arc and she would go to the line and net all three. The teams would go to overtime with they would continue to battle. Mary Washington would grab a 3 point lead again and again, Mocniak would get fould on a 3 point attempt. She would connect on all 3 to tie it. Sarah Seipp would then get called for a block at the other end, her 5th, allowing for the Eagles to shoot a pair. The free throws would put Mary Washingotn up 2 with 15 seconds left. Hackett would drive the lane and leave a perfect pass to Kathy Albornoz who would put it in, and we would head to double overtime. There the Gulls would take over to seal the win.
