Gia Bautista came out as a winner again at the 2015 Maryland Eastern Shore Regional Spelling Bee, held at University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Saturday.

Bautista, an eighth-grader at Wicomico Middle School, also won in the 2014 competition and will now compete in the national spelling bee.

Erin Welch, a sixth-grader at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, graciously took the runner-up position for the second year in a row.

The winning word was “blustery”.

Gia will represent the lower Eastern Shore at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

The competition will be held May 24 through 29.
