Warriors Come Up Short In OT To Mariners

The Pocomoke High School boy’s basketball team traveled up to Jobbatowne on Monday night for a state quarterfinal showdown in 1A hoops. Making a fourth-quarter comeback, the Warriors would come up short, dropping a 79-76 decision in overtime.
Fighting their way back into the game after trailing by as much as eight in the third quarter, a strong full-court pressure installed by head coach Derek Fooks inched the Warriors back into the game, eventually reclaiming the lead in the final eight minutes.
With the game tied and an opportunity in the final 10 seconds to win in it in regulation, Pocomoke’s Tyler Nixon launched a long ball that just knocked off the metal to send the game to overtime. Trading baskets to start the extra time between Nixon and Mariners’ Rashaad Gore, Joppatowne found the advantage late to seal up the victory. Forcing turnovers and knocking in the free throws they needed, the Mariners punched their ticket to the state semifinals at the XFINITY Center on March 13.
The Warriors conclude their incredible season with an 18-4 record overall.
