Gas leak reported in West Ocean City restaurant

The Applebee’s in West Ocean City is closed until further notice following a gas leak Wednesday afternoon.

Ocean City officials tell 47 ABC six people total were hospitalized due to the carbon monoxide leak.

Officials from The Rose Group, the company that owns the Applebee’s chain, say in a release, a few employees were taken to the hospital but it’s unclear how many.

The Ocean City Fire Department reportedly got a call at 3:15 PM, but it is not known how CO2 gas leak started or how long the gas was leaking.

Town officials say The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

In a statement sent to 47 ABC, Officials from The Rose Group say, “We are closed today until further notice due to a CO2 leak in the building.  A few employees were taken to the hospital to make sure they have the best possible care. Our employees and our customers in the Ocean City area are our top priority. It is our responsibility to ensure their safety, so we are working with local experts to see if there are elevated levels at this time. We will remain closed until we can guarantee the site is secure for both employees and our customers.”
