Cecil HC Bolts, Diggs and Ennis Consider Options
Parkside senior guard Dajour Diggs and Delmar senior guard Larry Ennis were committed to play their college ball at Cecil Junior College under Head Coach LeShawn Hammett. This was hoped to be the start up of what Cecil use to be under the direction of then Head Coach Bull Lewit for basketball players from Delmarva, which was an opportunity to develop and then move on to a Division 1 school. All that has changed now.
Coach Hammett accepted a position as the Head Coach of Penn State Wilkes Barre. Cecil is now looking for their next head coach, and both Diggs and Ennis are weighing their options as to where they will now play basketball next season.
“I have a couple other junior colleges I’m looking at, or I might follow him (Coach Hammett) there” Diggs said. The door has opened too for Ennis, who is now also considering following Coach Hammett, or attending a different Division 3 or junior college this fall.
Ennis’ high school head coach is also trying to help guide his former player through this decision making process, “We not sure yet. No new coach yet (at Cecil), so were shopping his options.”
There was hope from many basketball fans around Delmarva that this could be the start of what Cecil college use to be under the direction of Coach Lewit, when local talent would get filtered there as a stop before transferring to a Division 1 program. This worked for such players like Kyle Camper, Maron Brown, Steve Parham, Eddie Miller, Craig Winder, and AJ Spencer.
This past season for Delmar Ennis averaged 27 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists a game, while Diggs averaged 16.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 8.8 assists for the Rams.
