Man arrested after alleged assault at Smyrna bus stop

A man is in custody, after police say he assaulted a woman at a bus stop and stole her belongings, in Smyrna.

The Smyrna Police Department says on Tuesday, around 4:15 PM, officers responded to the area of U.S. Route 13 and East Mt. Vernon Street for a fight at the bus stop. Once on scene, police say they encountered a woman who told them that her acquaintance, 56-year-old Allen Reed of Dover,  assaulted her, stole her purse and belongings, and then fled the scene on foot.

According to the report, officers searched the area for several minutes before finding Reed, who was walking back towards the bus stop and attempting to further harass the victim. Authorities say Reed refused commands from officers and was arrested after a brief struggle.

During his arrest, Reed reportedly threatened further violence against the victim for calling law enforcement.Once back at Smyrna Police Department, the 56-year-old refused to comply with fingerprinting/photographing.

Police say the victim suffered minor injuries during the incident which did not require medical intervention, and she was able to get all of her stolen property back.

Reed was charged with robbery second degree, offensive touching, disorderly conduct, aggravated intimidation of a witness, resisting arrest and failure to comply with fingerprinting.

He was later turned over to the Department of Corrections on $18,000.
