How “hot desking” is changing the way small biz operates

Cutting costs without sacrificing productivity.

Renting a desk at a fully equipped office facility or “Hot-Desking” is a trend amongst startup business owners and young entrepreneurs because of it’s cost effective format.

“The overhead is just so much at a regular office space.” Says Jeremy Heslop, the president of Omni Tech Pro who is currently renting from HotDesks.org in Salisbury.

Nick Simpson, a co-founder of the mobile application NUVU, also commented on how the new trend takes away financial responsibility, saying, “We don’t have to pay the electric, we don’t have to pay the comcast bill, not only that, you’re just saving yourself the headaches of doing all of that.”

These facilities provide small business owners with rooms, office supplies, and business grade internet, with 24-7 memberships for individual and business use.

“The space and the technology is just great here.” And “There’s 3 conference rooms at different sizes, so you can have a full classroom, you can have a smaller conference room, and then a little bit smaller intimate boardroom kind of setting.” Added Heslop.

In addition to giving business owners the supplies they need to conduct business, the space also creates a friendly office atmosphere promoting collaboration and growth between businesses.

“Being able to work in this space I’ve been able to meet other businesses that have actually helped my business and there’s potential contracts that might come through.” Said Simpson.

Having a constantly changing workplace environment can present some concerns.

Like a business competitor joining the same co-working space, or an overly obnoxious
hot-desker in the facility.

Entrepreneurs say that if these issues arises, moving to a conference room such as this to discuss business strategies in private would solve the problem.

Hot-desks.org, which is a co-working facility exclusive to the eastern shore just recently opened a second location in Easton.
