A Coast Guard official from the Saint Inigoes office says the body of a Salisbury man was recovered near Cobb Island, in a section of the Potomac River.

Authorities say they found Douglas Romano on Monday afternoon. According to a close source of the school, Romano is a teacher at Stephen Decatur Middle School.

We’re told Romano was reportedly out on his skiff yesterday looking for fossils along the river in Virginia. Coast guard officials say he was reported missing after no one heard of him for about 16 hours.

Crews were dispatched Monday morning about 9:00 a.m. An official tells us Romano’s boat was found around 10:30 a.m., but they did find him until around 2:00 p.m.

We’re told he was found 3 miles from his skiff.

Officials say he was recovered from the water and transported by EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was eventually positively identified by a special investigator with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
