Ravens blank Vikings for win number 7

The Sussex Tech softball team got their seventh win of the season, shutting out Cape Henlopen at their home field, 4-0 Friday afternoon.

Tech took the lead in the top of the second inning when freshman Alyssa Collins grounded out to second, a fielder’s choice scoring Elisha Marks. The Ravens would add three more runs throughout the game, taking a 4-0 lead.

Cape’s only real threat came in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Riley Shields hit a triple that traveled to the right field wall. With one out in the last frame, Raegan Jackson stepped in the box, looking to get her team closer. Jackson would send a liner to short center field that looked as if it had the makings to get down, but Tech’s Jenna Tate charged strong to the ball and made an amazing diving catch to save at least one run. Ravens’ pitcher Sarah James would strike out Cape’s last batter, ending the run.

The Ravens travel to Indian River on Monday, while Cape travels to St. George’s on Tuesday.
