Delaware offers free clinic amid active flu season

It's no secret that flu season is well underway and health officials are stressing that the virus is very active this year.

47 ABC spoke to the Delaware Division of Public Health. So far this flu season there have been 146 hospitalizations, over 500 lab confirmed cases of the virus and 2 flu related deaths.

Officials say flu season spans anywhere from October to May, usually winding down in March. But they add that this year's numbers don't look like they're slowing down anytime soon. The good news is experts say it's not too late to get the vaccine.

"At this time we have no evidence at least in our state that the flu has peaked. It takes about two weeks for the antibodies that protect your body against the influenza virus to build up and are really able to offer that protection in full force," said Andrea Wojcik, Communications Chief for Delaware Division of Public Health.

Delaware Division of Public Health is offering a free flu clinic Wednesday, at the Legislative Hall Library in Dover from 9 AM to 3 PM.

No appointments are necessary but adults must bring a photo ID. If you can't make it to this clinic, go to flu.delaware.gov for information on how you can still get a flu shot.
