Decatur Girls Lacrosse Remain Perfect, Down Bennett

The Stephen Decatur girls lacrosse team remained perfect on the year Wednesday night when they defeated Bennett 19-4. The win improves the Seahawks to 11-0, while the loss drops the Clippers to 3-8.
The Clippers would hold early on against the Seahawks attack as Decatur would have a slow start out of the gates. Brittany Schmolt was doing a fabulous job in goal for the Clippers to open the game. Payton VanKirk would then find the back of the net off a nice pass from her sister Lexi VanKirk to get the scoring started. Decatur would begin to find traction from there, as Blair Yesko would get into the scoring action, finding the back of the net 3 times in the first half alone. Defensively, the Seahawks were sound anchored by their goalie Jillian Petito. Bennett didn’t give in though, and would find the back of the net twice before the half was done. Decatur would come out of the gates fast in the second half as well though to put the game away, including a goal from Petitio who was taken out of goal and began to play mid field.
It was senior night for the Seahawks 6 seniors, VanKirk, Yesko, Petitio, Jenna Leitgeb, Alley Beck and Jordan Klebe.
Decatur returns to action Friday when they travel to play Parkside, while Bennett has their season finale Friday at WiHi.
