Fundraiser announced in effort to fund potential A and E district

Crisfield is taking another step toward creating a new Arts and Entertainment district. A new unique fundraiser has been announced that can also help out local businesses in the process.
'Have a Seat,' as its called, will allow local businesses to sponsor chairs that will be painted by local artists and displayed in front of those businesses.
Those seats will be displayed in front of local shops to attract customers, and will eventually be auctioned off at the Hard Crab Derby in late August and early September.
Crisfield is hoping to be approved for tax incentives from the county and city before they can apply by the next deadline.
"We're aiming for the April first deadline. In order to apply, the County Commissioners have to decide they would also approve tax incentives. So both the city and the county have to offer those tax incentives," says city circuit rider Jennifer Merritt.
Money from the fundraiser will go toward the $20,000-a-year budget for the district. Applications for participants in the fundraiser are due by the end of March.
