Wicomico County Public School central offices will move to North Salisbury

Wicomico County Public School central offices will soon have a new location.
All of the services currently located on Long Avenue will move to Northgate Business Park in North Salisbury this summer.
Superintendent John Frederickson says they have been studying locations for about four years, but this opportunity was the most feasible. He says the new building will cost $250,000 per year to come out of operating costs and the building is already furnished.
According to Frederickson, this means nearly all operations in one location as opposed to 150 employees scattered among their building and the annexes behind it.
“This way you can simply walk past somebody’s desk, drop the thing off, and you’ve taken care of it, you have that face-to-face interaction which does two things, number one you get the job done faster and number two making and keeping promises is a key way of building trust,” says Frederickson. “We have to have trust not only within our community but within our organization.”
Frederickson says they are also looking at using their current building on Long Avenue for pre-kindergarten classes.
Because the move is using operating, not capital expenses, the Board of Education does not have to ask the county for the money.
In a statement to 47 ABC, County Executive Bob Culver says he has “minimal” control over their decisions and he “wants to be assured that this proposed transaction will not have any negative impacts on classroom funding and/or other priority Board of Education Capital projects and I call upon the Board to provide the public with that reassurance.”
