Mardela Advances To Regional Championship

The Mardela High School softball team took one step closer to a state title Wednesday afternoon, as the Warriors advanced past Cambridge-South Dorchester with a 5-1 decision to take a trip to the regional championship.
Scoring early was the ticket in this one, seeing the Warriors send two across home plate in the first and followed it with three more in the second to take a commanding 5-0 lead into the third inning.
The Vikings came to life in the top of the third, bringing home their first run. A shot to shallow right field by starting pitcher Paige Bleyer was good enough to bring home teammate Allison Hayton to cut the deficit to four, but that’s all the further Cambridge would get.
From there on out, it was a pitcher’s duel between Bleyer and Mardela’s Kalie Adkins. But Adkins would get the final strikeout, ending the seventh inning and the game with a ‘K’ to send the Warriors on to the next round.
Mardela now advances to the regional championship at Colonel Richardson on Friday at 4 p.m.
