UMES Baseball Stumbles Late Vs. Savannah St.

The UMES baseball team fell late to Savannah State in the opening round game of the MEAC tournament 8-6. The Hawks will now face Norfolk St. Thursday morning at 9am.
The Hawks fell behind 3-0 early after the Tigers plated 3 in the bottom of the first. UMES would then tie it up 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the first, followed by another run in the 2nd to take the lead. The lead would then stretch to 3 after a 2 RBI single from Mike Escanilla. It appeared that the lead my be enough for Jesse Stinnett, who was dealing for the Hawks, finishing with 9 strike outs. But the Tigers would get to the Hawks pitchers late. Savannah State would hit a solo shot in the 7th to get within 2, before plating a pair in the 8th to tie the game up. Then the Tigers would take the lead off a 2 RBI single in the 9th, and that would prove to be the difference.
