Safe practice when using Craigslist

Continuing with 47 ABC’s effort to help keep you safe from scams – Craiglist. It’s basically a big online classified section and it can be risky.
One risk could affect your bank account – sellers on Craiglists asking for money up front and then never delivering on the product or service.
Experts say do not agree to that. Insist on meeting the seller in person if you can.
But the face-to-face meeting carries risks that could affect more than your bank account. There have been a number of robberies and murders that started with sellers using Craigslist to lure their victims.
So meet in person. Make sure it’s a public place.
And when it comes time to meet, bring someone with you, as Travis Fisher, with Inacom Information Systems says, “Always. You never know where you’re going to end up. You know if it’s a coffee shop or McDonald’s or something, there’s going to be witnesses around, and hopefully things would be a lot better, but definitely bring a friend if you’re worried about it.”
