Delaware kicks off DART Resort Transit options

Memorial Day is quickly approaching, which means summer is right around the corner, and with summer comes beach town traffic.

Delaware Transit is making it easier for those heading to the beach, by bringing back the resort transit bus service. The seven bus routes, which serve Rehoboth Beach and the Boardwalk, Lewes, Long Neck, Georgetown, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, South Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, and Ocean City, Maryland, run seven days a week from 7:00 AM until 1:00 AM, until September 13. Officials say the buses are all air-conditioned, ADA accessible and equipped with bike racks.

Mr. Sisson stated, “We’re proud to provide a much needed service in the beach communities of Delaware, and look forward to another successful season.”

The cost for a ride is $1.75 per trip, or $3.70 for a daily pass, but visitors and residents alike can also use the Park & Ride lot off Route 1 on Shuttle Road, where parking costs $8 a day, but four riders can get free unlimited access to the resort routes.

DART is also starting their Beach Connection route on Friday, which runs from Wilmington to Rehoboth Beach on Friday nights, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays through September 7. The route will stop at Wilmington Train Station, Christiana Mall, Smyrna Rest Stop, Scarborough Park & Ride lot in Dover, Super Walmart in Milford, and the Rehoboth Park & Ride. The one-way cash  trips cost $11.50 from Wilmington, and $6.90 from Dover, but riders can buy a 4/5-Zone pass for $19.20, which can also be used on all the Resort Transit routes, once at the Park & Ride.
