Former Pittsville bookkeeper indicted on felony theft charges

A former Town of Pittsville employee has been indicted, after she reportedly stole more than $170,000 from the municipality.
The Wicomico Bureau of Investigation says they started an investigation in July 2014, into a financial audit of the Town of Pittsville. There was apparently a significant amount of money missing from the books.
Investigators say Carla Moore, who became a person of interest in the investigation, was hired in 2012 as the financial records custodian and bookkeeper for the town. While she was in that position, Officials say they found several financial transactions that couldn’t be identified as part of town operations. Investigators reportedly found that Moore had embezzled more than $170,000.
On Monday, the evidence was presented to the grand jury in the Wicomico County Circuit Court, which then in turn, indicted Carla Moore on five counts of felonious theft. Moore was arrested on Thursday morning, and is now behind bars at the Wicomico County Detention Center on a $200,000 bond.
