Scam warning: local restaurants targeted

Heads up to business owners, particularly in the food service industry. The Rehoboth Beach Police department is warning about a scam reported from one of their local businesses.
Scammers email a restaurant to order a large order for pick-up to be paid by credit card. The idea is that a courier will pick up the catering order and be paid by the restaurant in cash for delivering the food.
However the credit card is stolen. If the restaurant falls for it, they are out of cash and will also lose money on credit card theft, and the food out the door.
Detective Robert Whitman says, “We’ve had these complaints previously. This is the first time this season that we’ve had them. I believe some jurisdictions have already received some.”
Police say if you see any signs of this wherever you are call local law enforcement.
