Cape baseball’s magical run comes to an end

Cape Henlopen baseball’s magical run came to an end Saturday afternoon, as the Vikings fell on the state championship game to Appoquinimink, 10-2 at Frawley Stadium on Wilmington.

The Vikings started fast,Drew Mulcahey began the game with a lead off double. Number 2 hitter Zac Gelof preceded to single to right, giving Cape the very early 1-0 lead.

Ironically, that would be the only lead the Vikings had, as Appo came to the plate in the bottom of the first and put up 4 runs. Cape’s bats started to slow down, when Appo starter Ryan Steckline began to get going.

Steckline would shut out the Vikings they the next four innings, while Appo kept the bats going. The Jags scored 4 in the first, one in the second, and 5 in the third, building up a lead than anyone would struggle to come from.

David Kennedy scored Cape’s second run on a passed ball, but that would be the only other bright spot they had, with David Kwan flying out to right to end their season. The Vikings finish the year 14-8.
