State Police have released new details, after a crash in Pocomoke City sent five people to the hospital.

Maryland State Police say it all happened just before 5:30 PM on Monday on Route 113 near Lambertson Road. According to the report, a 1998 Ford Mustang convertible was stopped along northbound Route 113, near Lambertson Road, when the driver, 27-year-old Melanie Fenton, of New Church, Virginia, tried to make a left turn into a median crossover, across two lanes of traffic. Police say while Fenton was crossing the lanes, it pulled directly into the path of a 2014 Chevrolet Express van, causing the van to hit the Mustang on the driver’s side.

Fenton was reportedly air lifted from the scene to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, before being transferred to Shock Trauma in Baltimore due to the extent of her injuries. The second driver, a 25-year-old Salisbury man, along with the occupants of the Mustang, a 24-year-old New Church woman, a 22-year-old Pocomoke man, and a 10-year-old Pocomoke boy, were all taken to PRMC with minor injuries.

Route 113 was closed for several hours, while while a Maryland State Police accident re-constructionist investigated and cleared the scene. Troopers say they were assisted by members of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Highway Administration, and Pocomoke City, and Snow Hill fire departments.

MSP says the investigation is continuing at this time, and charges against Fenton are pending.
