Remembering Coach Pusey

The town of Pocomoke is mourning the loss of not just their field hockey coach, but a face of the community. Susan Pusey died early Sunday morning from a complication in a knee surgery that she had the Friday before. Her absence has left a void in her school, as well as with most everyone that knew her.
Following the news of her dying, Pocomoke High School principal Annette Wallace opened up the doors to her school to allow current and former players to come and embrace one another as they remember the titan of woman they had lost. Throughout that time, the people in attendance shared stories of what Coach Pusey had meant to them, and how she was far more than just a coach.
There is no denying Coach Pusey’s success on the field. During her time at Pocomoke, she helped guide the Warriors to an incredible 16 state titles. She sent several players onto the next level, with a few even playing at the Division 1 level. The Pocomoke field hockey program became known as a power house, not just on the Eastern Shore, but for all of Maryland.
The school and community are now pulling together as they try and recover from this immense loss. As principal Wallace put it though, “Pocomoke field hockey will continue. Coach Pusey wouldn’t want it to end with her. #PuseyStrong”
