Holiday shipping deadlines fast approaching

It's the happiest time of the year, but it's also the busiest time of the year for the United States Postal Service.

"We're in the thousands, I mean on a daily basis it's about 3,000 packages sometimes four, we're already at six plus," says Salisbury Post Master Ann Brady.

The post office in Salisbury is already delivering a record number of packages.

"We are definitely having an influx of packages compared to the last couple of years."

What's crazy is that their busiest week, December 18th through the 24th, hasn't even happened yet.

"They're expecting 200 million packages to be delivered just that week," says Brady.

To make sure your package is one of the 200 million, you have to get it boxed, ready to go, and to the post office in the next week and a half.

"First class is December 19th, you should have it out for December the 19th. Priority mail is December the 20th and Priority Express by December 22nd," Brady explains.

But shipping your packages in time isn't the only thing to remember, making sure the present arrives safely is important too.

"Don't guess the zip code, it's better to not have a zip code at all than to put the wrong zip code," Brady continues, "Another way to keep your package safe is signature confirmation so someone would have to sign for it so if there's nobody home, obviously you'd come here to pick it up."

With these tips presents will definitely make it under the tree.
