Marylanders may be subject to fraud through recent Western Union scam

If you've transferred money through Western Union, you may be eligible to be reimbursed.

The Federal Trade Commission has recently announced anyone using Western Union between January 1, 2004 and January 19, 2017 can now file a claim if the transaction resulted in fraud.

The Better Business Bureau serving Greater Maryland receives fraud complaints and works with FTC to scout any scammers.

And because local matters, we spoke to BBB hoping to help anyone affected on delmarva.

One-in-five individuals are impacted each year.

Scammers have been luring in money through western union in the past several years.

FTC filed a claim against the financial services company and an agreement has been settled.

Through the settlement, the Department of Justice will refund individuals who lost money in scams.

If you are eligible, you have to submit a claim for that refund and you don’t even need proof.

If it's been multiple payments, each one requires a separate claim.

All you have to do is describe what you’ve experienced.

It may be up to a year before you get your refund.
