Aug. 7 – Girl Scouts S’mores Day

In celebration of National S’mores Day, August 10, Girl Scout councils from throughout the Mid Atlantic will race to assemble as many super-sticky s’mores as possible in a messy relay held at Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort in Cambridge, Maryland. In addition, Hyatt will make $1000 contributions to each participating council, and provide each Girl Scout with three complimentary evenings at the resort.

Four teams of Girl Scouts (Representing Baltimore, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Delaware, and Maryland’s Eastern Shore), will kick off the day with a S’mores Making Contest to see who will be the first to fill a series of six-foot tables with s’mores. 3200 graham crackers, 25 pounds of marshmallows, and nearly 1000 chocolate bars will be used to create as many as 1,600 s’mores treats during the competition. The winning team will take home the Golden S’mores trophy and the title of “Sensational S’mores Making Scouts.”

In the afternoon, the Girl Scouts will engage in a friendly Iron Chef battle in which each team is given a mystery ingredient to incorporate into an original s’mores creation within a matter of minutes. Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Executive Chef Tom Olson will judge the dishes on taste, presentation, teamwork, cleanliness, and creative use of ingredients. The team with the winning dish will be crowned “The Girl Scouts’ Iron Chef.”

“S’mores are a hallmark of our resort and s’mores are synonymous with Girl Scouts,” said Chris Levine, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay, “so we decided to have some fun on National S’mores Day, while supporting four great Girl Scout councils near our property.”

Participating councils include: Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital; Girl Scouts of Central Maryland; Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania; and Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay.

“Girl Scouts and s’mores are synonymous,” said Anne T. Hogan, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay. “For decades, Girl Scouts and their families and friends have roasted marshmallows over campfires and partnered them with chocolate and graham crackers. S’mores are an important part of the outdoor experience — and are a delicious bit of Americana.”
