Maryland AG Frosh announces relief totals for 2015 fiscal year

Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh announced what the Consumer Protection Division has worked on for the 2015 fiscal year. The Attorney General’s Office helps Marylanders reclaim money they feel they have been wronged by businesses, scammers, and insurance companies.

This year the Consumer Protection Division reclaimed 11.9 million dollars for Maryland residents and $206,000 of which was for Eastern Shore residents.

Barbara Freimuth, was helped by the Attorney General’s Office this year in a dispute with her health insurance company. Freimuth was $50,000 in debt from hospital bills. The Consumer Protection Division helped negotiate with her insurance company to prove she did not owe that sum of money.

Freimuth says, “Seriously I felt like I was drowning. I was drowning in the claims. I was drowning in the thought process of what I needed to do to resolve this issue.”

Frosh advises to stay clear from opportunities and offers that seem too good to be true. Usually advertisements that offer free ipads or any electronics lure computer users to enter private information.

Frosh stated that the data breaches are one of the common ways people have their identity stolen.

Frosh says, “Be very vigilant about your bank account, your credit card account, check them on a daily or at least a weekly basis to check if there are any transactions you do not recognize.”
