Input sought for beach, boardwalk improvements

Rehoboth Beach is seeking input from its residents regarding a new committee.  The Boardwalk and Beach Committee is developing its mission statement that will include issues related to maintaining the boardwalk as a major city asset.

We spoke with some locals in Rehoboth who listed a few improvements that could be made.

The number one concern was the amount of rent paid by businesses, which has led to certain businesses leaving altogether.  Some believe lowering rent altogether is the key to helping businesses stay on Rehoboth Ave.  Others believe a bell curve model, where businesses pay more in the summer and less in the winter, would help.

Other concerns include limited parking during summertime, and adding events into the offseason to bring people in throughout the year.

"It's very high in demand here in the summer, but then in the winter all of that demand goes away, and you're struggling to find ways to make ends meet," says former resident Michael Almine.

"Of course the parking is really crazy during season.  So, but then, do you want parking decks," says Lewes resident Wendy Carter.

The committee meetings will be open to the public with participation welcome, though no meetings have been scheduled.
