Zip Cars roll into UMES

The days of trying to hitch a ride from the cool senior with a car, may be over for students at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Today, the campus rolled out their Zip Car program.
Zip Car is a car sharing company that has partnered up with the school. Students have the ability to reserve a car electronically by the hour or daily; and they only have to be eighteen to do so.
UMES have two Zip Cars located on campus. Officials say if the demand increases, they can add more cars. They also note that these vehicles have the ability to increase their student’s involvement in the community and provide major assistance to their international students.
Javin Brathwaite, the Director of Auxiliary and Business Services says, “A lot of international students who come here don’t have the means to get a local driver’s license. They (Zip Car) do accept your driver’s license as well as your passport as a means of verification.”
Officials say they are currently working with Zip Car to see if there’s a way students can use their Hawk Card as a form of payment for the vehicles.
