SMS Students read poem to remember lives lost

Students from Ms. Tara Elliott’s reading class at Salisbury Middle School had a unique lesson in class today, in honor of the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Ms. Elliott’s class read Billy Collins’ “The Names,” out loud, which recounts each of the victims of the terrorist attacks.

Elliott says that she incorporated the poem into her lesson, for her students to better understand the gravity of the tragic date, considering they were not even born when the attacks took place.

One of Elliott’s students, Michael McKinley tells 47 ABC, “I think it’s just a day that we need to be grateful for our lives.”
