DelDOT asks drivers to slow down in construction zones

The Delaware Department of Transportation is asking people to watch their speed while driving through construction zones.
They said they have been seeing an increase in the amount of distracted driving and speeding through these areas, which puts the lives of construction workers at risk.
DelDOT told 47ABC they are already working closely with Delaware State Police to enforce speeding restrictions in construction zones.
They are also using signage notifying motorists to slow down and be aware.
Legislation for speeding cameras has not yet been proposed, but DelDOT said they would support the installation of cameras if it ever becomes an option.
C.R. McLeod, the Director of Community Relations for DelDOT said, "Anything that would improve safety on any if our roadways whether it's a construction zone or just our roadways in general. We would definitely be interested in pursuing and looking further into."
DelDOT said 33 workers have lost their lives while on the job in the state's history.
They said this number is too high, and they want to prevent any more deaths from occurring.
