Marasco, Easton Football Stuns Kent County

The previously winless Easton football team squared off against power house Kent County Saturday and stunned the Trojans by winning at 7-6 ball game. The win improves the Warriors to 1-4, while the loss drops Kent County to 3-2.

The Warriors would come out of the gates and completely execute their game plan. The offensive line would prove to be stout and control the line of scrimmage. Once they won up front, Jojo Marasco would dominate the second level. The bruising back would touch the ball nearly every time on offense for the Warriors as they marched down the field and capped off a long drive with a short touchdown run. The point after would give the home team a 7-0 lead. After a 3 and out by the Trojans, Easton would again put together a long drive before stalling on the 20.

Kent County then found a spark offensively with their play maker in Marquan Greene. The junior would get it started with a 20 yard pick up off a quick pass to the flats. Then very next play, he broke off a 20 yard run off the right side. That drive would stall though and they would be forced to punt. With time winding down in the first half, Easton would look to punt but the snap would go over the head of their punter, and the ball would be downed on the 11. A few plays later, Stevie Currian would take a QB keeper up the middle for the score. The play was debated as one side ref called him down at the one, while the other side ref said he broke the plain. On the ensuing point after, the Trojans would run a fake, and Greene would take it to the right side and get in for the score. The side ref however ruled that Greene had stepped out on the one, and called it no good. Easton would then take a 7-6 lead into half time.

The teams continued to put together small drives before being forced to punt in the 3rd until the Trojans were set up off another bad snap by Easton. The Warriors defense would answer the bell this time though and come up with a goal line stand, as the Trojans decided to go for it on 4th and goal from the 5. Greene would get the ball on a sweep but Easton’s defense would sniff out the play and tackle him for a loss. Easton would take a 7-6 lead into the 4th. On the first play of the last quarter, Kent County’s defense would come up with an interception to set up the Trojans deep in Warriors territory. But penalties hounded the Trojans all day, as they would get backed up and be forced to punt. Easton then went on a long drive that started on their own 8 yard line and would use up nearly 10 minutes to end the game.

Kent County returns to work next Friday when they host Stephen Decatur, while Easton host Queen Anne’s on Friday.
