Teen driver involved in fatal motorcycle crash in Frankford

Delaware State Police say, they are investigating a fatal crash in Sussex County involving a motorcyclist and a teen driver.

According to reports, the incident happened around 5:15 PM Wednesday, on Pepper Road near the intersection of Gum Road. Investigators say, a 17-year-old Frankford male was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe south on Pepper Road when he attempted to turn left on Gum Road. That’s when he apparently turned directly in the path of 20-year-old Toyana Knight Jr., of Seaford, driving a Suzuki motorcycle north on Pepper Road. Knight reportedly tried to avoid hitting the Chevrolet but was unsuccessful striking the right side of the vehicle.

Knight, who was reportedly wearing a helmet was taken to Atlantic General Hospital where he was pronounced dead due to multiple traumatic injuries.

The 17-year-old male was properly restrained and was uninjured. His name is being withheld due to his age and the on-going investigation.

Troopers are continuing their investigation into this incident and say, charges may be forthcoming. Pepper Road at Gum Road was closed for about three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
