Salisbury makes moves for hunger action month

September is Hunger Action Month which once again has sparked some movement from the The Maryland food bank.
The Eastern Shore Branch has been in Salisbury for nearly forty years, serving as an active voice for hunger on the shore. In this fiscal year they alone have served eight different counties; distributing over five million meals. This year they decided to do something a little different, an additional distribution day.
300 families have already registered. These families will be able to receive additional produce and poultry that we’re told will last them well into next month.
“With it being hunger action month we really thought what better vision then to really touch the community firsthand so that all of our staff cold really see what we do,” said Jennifer Small, Salisbury’s food bank manager. “In the 8 counties that we serve,17,000 of those are children those are staggering numbers so every bit of support through community efforts such as stuff a truck, really help us to provide more food to those who need it most.”
For those who don’t know through the, “Be a voice campaign” as part of Hunger action Month, Maryland State Police and the Maryland Dept of transportation are stuffing a state highway administration vehicle with food at the Princess Anne Barack on Saturday between 9 A.M. and and noon. This helps to put food back into the food bank so those in need can be served.
