Eight dead, 11 injured after man reportedly drives truck into New York City bike path

Authorities are investigating what officials are calling "an act of terror," after they say a man drove a truck into a bike path, killing eight people and injuring others, in New York. 

ABC NEWS reports that on Tuesday, around 3:00 PM, 29-year-old  Sayfullo Saipov, of Tampa, Florida, purposefully drove a truck into a bike path near the World Trade Center, in Manhattan. The incident apparently happened in the area of West Side Highway, near Chambers Street. New York Authorities report that eight people were killed and at least 11 injured. New York officials say the suspect is in custody at an area hospital. Saipov reportedly had imitation weapons in his possession  during the the attack. 

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says that there is no evidence to suggest a wider plot at this point. The attack is apparently being called a "cowardly act of terror,' says Mayor Bill de Blasio.

This attack remains under investigation. Officials are urging residents to go about business as usual and expect a large presence of law enforcement in the area.
