Virginia school bus overturns; 28 injuries reported

Authorities in Caroline County say 28 students have been injured when a school bus overturned after being struck by a minivan.
Caroline County Sheriff Tony Lippa told media outlets that the white minivan was leaving Caroline High School and trying to make it across an intersection when it struck the bus around 3 p.m. Friday. The bus, carrying middle and high school students, flipped over into a grassy area.
Lippa says 28 students were taken to area hospitals. He says five of those injuries were considered serious.
Lippa says the accident “could have been much worse.”
Among the injured were the drivers of the bus and the minivan. Lippa says the minivan’s driver was a 17-year-old student.
No charges were immediately filed.
