Habitat for humanity eyes 25 new homes by 2020

Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County has built 61 new homes in the county thus far, but the non-profit has even bigger plans on the horizon.

Officials with the organization say the plan on building 25 new homes in the next five years for low-income families that would otherwise not be able to buy a home.

By getting more home owners in Wicomico County, organizers say it will continue to help revitalize areas such the Church street area of Salisbury.

“The homeowners that are habitat homeowners they don’t have criminal records. These are good families that want to help the neighborhood,” said Molly Hilligoss, executive director fofr Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County.

Another initiative Habitat for Humanity is getting behind is the Em-power MD program.

If people qualify based on their income they can receive up to $5,000 of weatherization repairs for their home or up to $8,000 towards replacing a H -VAC unit that they don’t have to repay.
