The Streak Continues! Big 2nd Half Lifts Cape Field Hockey Past Delmar

The Cape Henlopen field hockey team remained undefeated on the season after pulling out a 4-1 road win at previously undefeated Delmar. The win improves the Vikings to 15-0, while the loss drops the Wildcats to 13-1-1. The win makes 69 straight wins overall for Cape, and 82 against in state opponents.

The Vikings would come out and control the tempo early. They would draw three corners in the first 15 minutes but were able to finish any of them off. The Delmar would finally generate an offensive push, and get the ball in front of the goal, where Nancy Harris would find Jordan Moore at the far post, and she would finish for the first score of the game. The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead into the break, but Cape came to play in the second frame.

Just over 5 minutes into the half, Cape would tie the game up after Tess Bernheimer would take the corner pass, and rifle it in from the left side. Shortly after that, the Vikings would take the lead after Sydney Ostroski would bring up the ball, take one step inside the circle and fire it in. Cape had found their offensive rhythm and would tack on another score just over a minute later when Ostroski brought up the ball and at the last moment, found Jody Boyer at the far post, and she would be able to beat the keeper near post for her teams 3rd goal of the half. Cape would then put the game away as Elizabeth Frederick would would work a give and go with Erin Coverdale, who would send one in for the score. The Vikings would hold on from there for the win.

Both teams now await the draw for this year state tournament to find out who and where they will be playing next.
