Heartbreak For Bennett Boys Soccer As They Fall To Atholton

The Bennett boys soccer team saw their season come to an end Thursday night when they fell at home to Atholton in the regional semifinals 2-1. The loss also ends the 24 year tenure of head coach Skip Ruark leading the Clippers from the sideline.
The Raiders would jump out to a 1-0 lead just over 9 minutes into the match after Jordan Armstead would head home a throw in for a score. Shortly after that, Bennett would come back to tie up the match after a hand ball in the box on Atholton would award the Clippers with a PK. Peter Gutoskey would take it and put it home in the upper left corner to tie up the match. Bennett would then generate several great scoring opportunities the rest of the half, but were unable to put any of them home. Then with under a minute to go in the half, the Raiders would be on the attack when one of their players was taken down on the box. That would give Atholton their own PK, and Nathan Kim would send it home for the score. Bennett would go to the half down 1, and turn up their aggression in the second half. They continued to fire shots on goal, but weren’t able to come up with the equalizer. With under a minute to go, Bennett would have a corner that would have the ball bounce around in the box before finally being cleared. Then with just under 10 seconds left, the Raiders would be called for a penalty just outside the box, but the Clippers were unable to do anything with the free kick, as time would expire.
