Wicomico Council makes new decision for HORIZON Program

WICOMICO COUNTY- Tuesday night the Wicomico County Council held a session to listen to public comments about the HORIZON Program and a decision was officially made.

The HORIZON Program would provide tax incentives for developers who are looking to make Wicomico County their new home.

John Cannon, a member of the council, said after discussion they decided to move forward and make requests for the County Attorney to formally prepare the initial draft for a legislation bill.

The bill with then go back to the county council for consideration.

Cannon said he feels the decision was made by recognizing the fact that in the long term this program could benefit the county.

“The benefit for the 10 year program should everything come to fruition would be an astronomically large increase in revenues,” Cannon said.

“I think we’re also fortunate that this will hopefully bring, create a vibrant downtown area and I’m looking at it as a catalyst for future growth,” Cannon said

Cannon said he thinks the legislative bill should be ready by next meeting on July 20th.
