Local group protests cellular poles going up on beach

DEWEY BEACH, DE.-  A group of local residents held a protest today in hopes of protecting their beachfront.

The Save Dewey Beach Foundation aims to raise awareness on cellular poles going up in environmentally sensitive areas.

The beach currently has 5 5-G telephone poles up, just from Verizon alone. They’re hoping to put a stop to this before more cellular giants get to the area.

Organizers says although they support 5G technology placing telephone poles near beaches and oceans is a concern and inconvenient. “But the problem is the placement of it. They weren’t very thoughtful about where they were putting them and these things started popping up everywhere without any reason or permit. So we’re putting a stop to that,” said Town Commissioner Paul Bauer.

The group says they not only want to protect their own beachfront, but other small beach towns across the U.S.
